Summary:
Jonas went home and slept after he finished his training. The next day he woke up and went to the morning ritual and remember that he couldn't tell anything about his training and that he needed to lie so he lied, the didn't tell them about his dream about the snow and the sled. Then Jonas went to training and Fiona was there so they walked together and unexpectedly Fiona's hair CHANGED! It was like the apple. Then he just went to talk to the receiver so he could tell him what is happening with him. When he was in the Agora, the Giver transmitted another memory of the sled and the snow and he saw the sled CHANGE and he figured he was seeing the color RED, an amazing color. The Giver told him that the first color he saw was red too and Jonas was so confused he didn't know that other colors existed and he didn't know why did the colors desapeared. The Giver said that they relinquished colors before they went to Sameness. Then the Giver showed a rainbow memory so Jonas could see all the colors. After a while Jonas could see all the colors but he just see them some times and very quickly and then black and white again. Then he tried to transmit to Asher a memory because he thought it was unfair that other people couldn't see colors but it didn't work. After that he revived a memory about some people that killed an elephant and he noticed that animals exist he also noticed that 2 people were white and the other 2 where black and that animals have feelings. Then the Giver gave him another memory and this memory started Jonas on top of a hill with a sled going down and suddenly he was going faster and faster he couldn't stop so he felt into the ground and he landed on his leg and for the first lime he felt real pain, his leg was broken. Then the Giver gave Jonas another memory about hunger, he explained that long ago there was to much people and there was not enough food for everyone. Then he went home and he took care of Gabriel and in the middle of the night Gabriel woke up and Jonas went to pat him in the back and unexpectedly he was transmitting a memory about a sail boat and then Gabriel went to to sleep.
Text Response:
" No, nothing. I thought for a minute that they were wilting, and we should let the Gardening Crew know they needed more watering." (99)
This quote means that Jonas was trying to pass a memory to Asher because he thought it was unfair that other people didn't saw colors. But then Asher was uncomfortable because they didn't touch people that aren't of the family unit so he took of his hand off his shoulder and Jonas realized that he was not transmitting his memories to Asher. Then he invented an excuse so Asher would not found out that Jonas was trying to transmit a memory.
"But what wisdom do you get from hunger?" (111)
This quote means that if there are many more people, people will get very hungry because there are not so much food for many people. So other people will starve and that can lead to war. Also I think that you get wisdom from hunger because of the experience.
Final Thought:
After reading this chapters I think that the book will keep interesting me because there will always be surprises and pain. Also I think that Jonas will not be quiet about his training and all the people will notice that colors exist and they will make a rebellion against the elders and everyone will like the community to be in a new community where all citizens make their own decisions. Also I think that Jonas will help them by seeing memories of the past so they don't make the same mistakes and he can have many ideas from other rebellions that have happened. I will like to know if Jonas could keep a secret about that he transmit the memory to Gabe and I will like to known if Gabe will remember the memory that has been transmitted to him when he grows.

The Receiver
Summary
In this chapters Jonas began to memorize the rules that he needed to know to be the Receiver. One of the most important rules that I think is the 8, that says: you may lie. Jonas was confused he wasn't ready to think about that rule. Then he went to the Annex were he buss the door and he saw that the door was locked. This apartment was full of books. A man that was the old Receiver told his life story and then that man said that his job was to transmit to Jonas memories of the past. Jonas is going to get messages form the ENTIRE WORLD !!!. Then the man started to talk about snow but Jonas didn't now what was he talking about, but the man transmitted a memory by making Jonas lay down and the old receiver touching his back and he felt everything cold and he saw snow and sleds and he was very surprised he had never felt this way before. Then the old receiver transmitted another memory because Jonas thought there will not pain and the man transmitted sunburn and suddenly he started to burn.

Text Response
" 'Her, not his. It was a female. But we are never to speak the name, or to use it again for a newchildren´ " (67)
I think that they are very rude because its only a mistake of a person, everyone makes mistakes. Also I think that a name should not be banished because of an error. Also I think that the community is very strict due to everyone is perfect and everyone follows the rules. I think that the rule 8 that is given to Jason is very unfair because every one should have the liberty to lie.
" ' That meant nothing to you, did it? ´ " (78)
This quote shows us that in Jonas community there are no differences everything is the same. Also this quote means that Jonas has not many knowledge about the entire world, that he has not experienced a lot of things because of the climate control in his community. Also I think that this quote shows us that Jonas is very confused by snow or sunshine because he has never felt this things.
Final Response
Well, I think that the memories that Jonas are going to get will be very painful because people get hurt and are injured every day. Also I think that Jonas will seem very old because he will have a lot of memories and he will be very stressed because he will just want to see his friends. In the other hand I think that he will make a wonderful job because he has all the requirements he needs to be a Receiver. I think that Jonas will change the community by getting rid of climate control and also he will get rid of all that rules of the community and live the other world.

The Giver Chapters 6-8
Summary

In the chapters 6 through 8 it was December when the ceremony
was coming. Lily is excited because she is going to get her first front-buttoned
jacket because the pocket jacket means that she is grown up to care her own
mini things. Lily hopes that Jonas is a pilot so he could take her flying. Then
they go to the auditorium and the audience sees the families where the newborns
get assigned, but Gabriel is given one more year to recover. Then the new
children were given their names and Fiona got a brother called Bruno. The
elders gave a family another Caleb because the first one died. In the ceremony
of loss they murmur the name of the one how died through the entire day. In the
Murmur-of-Replacement ceremony the community repeats the name of the one that is
dead, for the first time since he died and first they murmur and then they talk
louder and louder and then the family that lost the baby will stand up with the
new baby like if the baby was resuscitating. Then the ceremony continued with
the 1s, 2s, 3s, 4s, 5s, 6s, 7s and 8s. Lily got up in the stage and received her
jacket with pockets. Then the ceremony of 9s came and they received their bicycles,
then 10 and 11 where they received new clothing and finally the 12s. Jonas was told
a story about a boy that didn't like the assignment that the elders had given
him and he swam through the river and he was never seen again. Jonas sat at the
chair thinking the number that he has given when he was born, number 19. Next
to him there was Fiona that was number 18 and in the other side it was Pierre
that was number 20. The chief elder started to give the assignments to the first
and then the second one and then the third and then Asher. In Asher’s turn she gives
an speech about Asher and she gives him the assignment of assistant director of
recreation. Then the fifth and then the sixth and then the seventh and then the
eight till it was Fiona’s turn. She was number 18 and she was assigned to be a
care taker for the old. When it was supposed to be Jonas’ turn, the chief elder
called number 20. Jonas was so scared the chief elder skipped his turn, he was ashamed
and he asked himself: What had he done wrong? He was humiliated and terrified.
When the chief elder finished the assignments, she told everyone she didn't made
a mistake and she apologized to Jonas. She said that Jonas was not assigned, he
was selected to be the Receiver. The chief
elder told Jonas that he has qualities like intelligence, courage, wisdom and -something
no one understands, only he will- the capacity to see beyond. Jonas was terrified,
he thought he was not a good pick because he didn't have the capacity to see beyond,
but then he saw the same thing that happened to the apple: people changed.
Text Response
"The first Ceremony began right on time, and Jonas watched as one after another each newchild was given a name and handed by the Nurturers to its new family unit." (43)

This quote shows us that they don't refer to a family, they refer to a family unit like if all families are equal; no body has more or less. Also I think that a family unit is something that is made, it is not natural. Also I think that there should be families that are different and contribute different things to the community, not family units that are made so they are all the same. I think that this community is fake, there is no real love in families because they are just created to the community benefit.
"How could someone not fit in?" (48)
This quote means that Jonas' community is perfect, that there are no differences and no disagreements because they follow some rules and they have been following them since they where little. I think that Jonas has never seen how someone could not fit in because the elders almost every time they made a right decision. Also I think that the community doesn't have to think of fear because they have never felt something like that.
Final Thought
I think that this book is an imagination of a perfect life
because no one is different, everyone is treated the same. Also I think that
this commune is a community without love. I know that elders see everything
about you and match you with the perfect pair but you don’t decide. You don’t have your own family; the children
are not even yours. They refer to their families as family units and to their
houses as dwellings. They don’t ever refer the place they live and where their
family is to ‘home’. What do you think about this? Will you like to have all
your life solved for you? I think Jonas is going to change this community.

The Giver Chapters 1-5
Summary
The Giver starts with Jonas remembering
one year ago when he saw an aircraft passing through the community very
close, he was feeling frightened. These story talks
about Jonas and how he feels about the ceremony of 12 that is coming in
December. Jonas was trying to figure out how he feels and he was not feeling
frightened he was feeling eager. Jonas, his mom, dad and his little sister Lily shared their feelings in the rituals of feelings. His sister went first and she
said she was angry, then Jonas said he was feeling apprehensive about the
ceremony of 12 and his father told him that when he was his age he received his assignment and he told Jonas that the
elders gave him the job of nurturer and he was so happy because that was the
assignment he wanted. He also told him that everyone gets an assignment that
they like and Jonas' father starts talking about his old friends. His father
told him that the 12 ceremony is the last ceremony and that after the ceremony of twelve has passed it doesn't matter the age and that he will go to another
group, he will no longer have his old friends. Jonas' father wanted to take care of a new born child because he was going to get released because he was not growing
as good as he was supposed to. Lily talked about how cute he was and that he had pale eyes like
Jonas. Lily was considering being a birth mother because she liked the new born
but her mother told her that she couldn't see her baby and she didn't wanted
to be a birth mother any more. Then Jonas was thinking about Lily's assignment and
how she could be and speaker because she didn't shut up. Then he starts
remembering about a time he was playing with Asher (Jonas friend) with an apple
and in the air he saw that the apple changed but then in his hands the apple
was normal again. The next day Jonas sees
Asher and Fiona's (Jonas friend) bikes in the House of Old so he goes inside to
volunteer to. Then he went and help Larissa take a bath and she starts
talking about Robert, an old man that had been released from the House of Old. In the morning ritual they shared their dreams and Jonas said that his dream
was blurry but that he was feeling angry at first but then his feeling was
wanting. In his dream he saw Fiona and a bath tub and Jonas wanted her to
get in the bath tub. Then her mother got him pills for the "stirrings" and she
told Jonas that everyone needs to take them in the morning.

Text Responses
These are the quotes that I picked:
"The same size and shape: a perfect sphere. The same nondescript shade, about the same shade as his own tunic."(24)
In this quote Jonas is describing an apple. I realized that they don't describe things with colors. They describe shapes, sizes and shades. For example when they talk about the eyes of Jonas and Gabe. I think that they don't know what is a color and that they think everything is the same. They don't have birthdays they have ceremonies and also they don't have much freedom. In conclusion the people don't know many things. ... "what happens when they make the actual release? Where exactly did Roberto go?"(32)
When I read this quote I thought about the life of people that were released. I thought that there was not so bad as the community makes it sound because I thought that they could do anything there are no more rules. Also I thought that they could be free it is not a punishment its better to be released of the community. Also I think that Robert went to a nicer place were you could be alone some time and didn't have to talk about your feelings all the time. In conclusion I think this quote is very significant for the rest of the book.
Final Thoughts
I think that this community is strange because there are so many rules and there are punishments. This rules are very crazy like not hiding your feelings or having rituals all the times where you need to discuss about your day or your dreams. Also I think the community is very weird because they talk about animals as imaginary creatures and they talk about animals as wild. Another thing is that Jonas' community is very harsh with people they want to be a perfect community without any mistakes. For example they give assignments to everyone, they don't let you choose and also to have an assignment you have to complete volunteer hours. Also in every birthday (that is the same day for everyone) you get something like at 9 you get a bike and you are not suppose to ride a bike before you are 9. Another thing is that they never describe things with a color. In conclusion I think that the community is a very close community.
